Tip and Trick Detail
Simplified Extend and Trim with EDGEMODE
*Applies to: AutoCAD R12, 13, 14, 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004 and 2005*

Normally with extend and trim commands you have to have your reference object intersect with the objects that you wish to extend or trim to. If you have EDGEMODE set to a value of 1 you can extend or trim an object that doesn't intersect through your object. With EDGEMODE set to 1 you don't have to worry about creating new or duplicating construction lines in your drawing. It will automatically locate the nearest object and use it as your extend or trim boundary. The other value of EDGEMODE is 0, this value will force you to have your reference object to physically intersect through the object you wish to extend or trim with.

Command Line (Extend):
Command: EXTEND
Select boundary edges: (Projmode = UCS, Edgemode = Extend)
Select objects: {ENTER}
<Select object to extend>/Project/Edge/Undo: Select end of object to extend.

Command Line (Trim):
Command: TRIM
Select cutting edges: (Projmode = UCS, Edgemode = Extend)
Select objects: {ENTER}
<Select object to trim>/Project/Edge/Undo: Select end of object to trim
