Tip and Trick Detail
Quickly convert a decimal into a faction number or other format
*Applies to: AutoCAD R12, 13, 14, 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004 and 2005*

If you find yourself creating drawings from information provided by another source or individual and come across dimensions, (or values) that are in decimal and need to be converted to architectural.  You can use the command DIST to do this.  Most of us use the DIST command to figure out the distance from point A and point B on the drawing.  The DIST command can also except a single value as a parameter as well as two points.  Using a single number value allows for the use of this command to convert from one number format to the current Units format and precision set in AutoCAD.

Command Line (Decimal to Fraction):
(Units: Architectural / Precision 0'-0 1/64")

Command: dist
Specify first point: 32.4875
Distance = 2'-8 31/64"

Command Line (Fraction to Decimal):
(Units: Decimal / Precision 0.0000)

Command: dist
Specify first point: 1-5/32
Distance = 1.1563

Related AutoCAD commands: UNITS or -UNITS
