Creating a New Layer from an existing Layer
*Applies to: AutoCAD R13, 14, 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004 and 2005*

Often when you create a layer you are create a group or more than one layer at a time.  This tip will show you how to do this through the Layer Properties Manager.

Step 1 -  Startup the Layers dialog box. You can type in LAYER or go to the Format pull down and select Layer... Either one of these methods will bring up the Layer dialog box.

Step 2 -  Once the dialog box is up you want to select or highlight the layer you wish to copy to create a new layer from.

Step 3 -  Click the New command button. This will create a new layer with the default name of Layer 1. Change the properties as needed.

If you wanted to then create another new layer you can continue to repeat the above steps starting at Step 2.
