Keeping up to date with Communication Center
*Applies to: AutoCAD 2004 and 2005*

AutoCAD 2004 introduced a new tool called the Communication Center.  It provides a way to make sure that your software is up to date and to bring you the latest information about the software you are using.  Things like tips, articles and announcements for the product you are using can be just clicks away.  If you haven't enabled your Communication Center yet you are missing out on valuable information that could help save you time.  To setup Communication Center follow the steps below.

Step 1 -

Look for the icon that looks like a satellite dish near the lower right corner of the drawing window.  Double-click it to bring up the configuration dialog box.

Step 2 -

Click the text "Specify your country and preferred update frequency."

Select the country that you are located in or near in the Country section.

Select when you would like the Communication Center to check for new/updated content in the channels that you specify.

Check the "Enable Balloon Notification for new announcements" if you want to have a popup tell you when new content has been added to a channel that you are subscribed to.

Then click OK to accept the changes and exit the dialog box.

Step 3 -

Click the text "Connect to the Internet and download available information."

This will poll the server and download the available channels based on the product that you are using.  You will want to make sure that you are connected to the internet prior to clicking the text.

Step 4 -

Click the text "Specify which information channels you wish to view."

Information channels are arranged to deliver specific types of content to you.  Check or uncheck the channels that you wish to view/subscribe to.

Then click OK to accept the changes and exit the dialog box.

Step 5 -

Once you have answered all configuration questions you should see the Communication Center on screen display some content.  the content changes and is available only for a certain period of time.  So make sure you visit often.  You never know what might be out there.
