*Applies to: AutoCAD R2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004 and 2005*

With the introduction of AutoCAD 2000 came new software support for the Intellimouse.  The Intellimouse added support for a scrolling wheel in the middle of the mouse.  This wheel can be used for a wide variety of tasks.  The common use for this wheel is to easily scroll in a document or in the case of AutoCAD is to Zoom in and out in a drawing. In addition to being able to use the Scroll wheel to Zoom you can also hold it down to activate a panning mode.  This feature use very useful when you are working on large drawings and need a quick and fast way to move around a drawing.  Even though this feature helps to increase productivity, some individuals don't care to use it.  So Autodesk added a system variable called MBUTTONPAN to AutoCAD to allow the user to change the the behavior of the scroll wheel or middle mouse button.

0 (OFF) -  Action defined in AutoCAD menu (.mnu)

1 (ON) -  Allows panning to take place when holding down the mouse button or scroll wheel and dragging the mouse.

Command: mbuttonpan
