Tip and Trick Detail
Displaying the Attribute dialog when inserting a Block w/Attributes
*Applies to: AutoCAD R12, 13, 14, 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004 and 2005*

Under normal settings in AutoCAD you may elect not to have the Attribute dialog box displayed when inserting blocks into a drawing, but there are some situations that you may prefer to have the dialog box show up.  The system variable called ATTDIA allows you to control the visibility of the Attribute dialog box when using the INSERT command.  Below is an example of the command line and a table that references the behavior for each value.

0 -  Attribute prompts are forced to the command line.

1 -  Dialog box is used for Attribute prompts.

Command Line:
Command: attdia
Enter new value for ATTDIA <0>: 1
