Disabling Zip Folders in Windows Explorer *Applies to: Windows XP*
Windows XP has built in support for Zip
files and also has the ability to show the contents of a Zip file like
a file folder. This ability has caused problems with some software
applications like AutoCAD and some others. It is also important
to disable this feature if you want to use third-party Zip programs
like WinZip or PKZip to avoid any conflicts. To turn off this
feature follow the steps below.
Step 1 - Click on the Start button located in the task bar area.
Step 2 - Select the Run... option. When the dialog box pops up
type in regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll and click the OK button.
To re-enable the feature repeat Step 1 and select the Run... option. When the dialog box pops up
type in regsvr32 zipfldr.dll and click the OK button.
