Using the QNEW command (Quick New Drawing) *Applies to: AutoCAD 2004 and 2005*
The QNEW command works similar to that of the NEW
command with one slight change or twist to the command. Right out of the box
QNEW works exactly like NEW does. However, there is a setting located under
the OPTIONS dialog box that allows you to set a specific template to be used with
the QNEW command. The steps below outline how to setup a
template to be used for the QNEW command.
Step 1 -
Display the Options dialog box, Tools>>Options... or Options at the Command line.
Step
2 -
Click on the Files tab to make it active.
Step
3 -
Towards the lower portion of the treeview of the
dialog box you should see a branch called out as Drawing Template Settings.
This branch allows you to select the location for DWT files and the template that should be used
for the QNEW command.
Step
4 -
Click on the Plus sign next to Drawing Template Settings and
also next to Default Template File Name for QNEW.
Step
5 -
Highlight the word None under the branch Default Template
File Name for QNEW and click the Browse... button.
Step
6 -
Select the template that you want to create a new drawing
from when the command QNEW is activated and click Open.
Step
7 -
Click OK button once back to the Options dialog box to save
the change and exit the dialog box. Now each time you use the command QNEW it
will create a new drawing based on the template you selected. Repeat steps 1 - 5
to clear the template that was set, but click the Remove button instead of the
Browse... button.
