Tip and Trick Detail
Using a Tilde at a File Open, New or Save Command Line Prompt
*Applies to: AutoCAD R13, 14, 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004 and 2005*

In AutoCAD when you are working from the command line, or even in AutoLISP, you can launch the File Select dialog box by using a Tilde.  This works great if you redefine commands like New, Open or even SaveAs. So to use the Tilde when a command asks you to select a File type in a Tilde(~) instead and you can select from a dialog box instead.

Command Line:
Command: open
Enter name of drawing: ~
