Pick 'n Dragging to Create a Selection Window *Applies to: AutoCAD R12, 13, 14, 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004 and 2005*
Set the AutoCAD PICKDRAG system variable to 1 to create selection windows dynamically. When PICKDRAG is on and an
AutoCAD command prompts you to select objects, you select a point to be one corner of
the selection area. Then hold the left mouse button down and drag the window over the area to select.
Let go of the mouse button when the window is the size you want it to be.
The difference is the PICKDRAG system variable is set to 0 which is
AutoCAD's default. When you change this system variable to 1 it gives you the ability
to generate your selection window by holding down the left mouse button, (if your
using your mouse for a right handed person other wise it would be the right button)
and when you let up on the button the pick area or window will go away. That means that what
you have picked in that window will be selected and you have the small selection
box will return. If you leave the setting to 0 then when you pick a selected area the
window will stay be on until you pick the other opposite corner.
